My grandmother found my letter to then President Reagan in 1982. What can I say? I was 10 years old and he liked jelly beans. She's still trying to track down the response from the White House that came a couple of weeks later lol.As far as former President Carter's actions of late, all I can say is I'm not surprised. I don't agree that he should meet with the Hamas leader, Khaled Mashaal, not only because the move will be seen as "illegal" but because he will likely be used and in a great deal of danger personally (not that that has ever stopped him before.)
This cause has always been his calling and I can't imagine anyone talking him out of it. He brokered the first treaty with Isreal and an Arab country (Egypt) in 1979, and I think he's had that passion for the region ever since. Of course Isreal has given him the cold shoulder and told him he is on his own. We'll see what comes of his actions.
